I'm not talking about full-blown anxiety attacks but I suffer from mild anxiety. Let me give you a couple examples:

When I drive up to get some gas and find the pumps full I get nervous like "what am I going to do???". Even when it's just one side of the gas station. Then I look over at the other pumps and there is space so I calm down. Or if it's totally full I just wait until one gets open or else go somewhere else.

Or sometimes I'll dream up scenarios of "what would I do if this happened to me?" and then I get all nervous over nothing.

It might sound like I'm being a pu$$y but I am able to resolve the things I'm anxious about eventually so it's not like I'm totally unable to function. I can even talk in front of people and crowds without getting too nervous. It's just every day things cause me these moments.

Anyone else get these moments of anxiety?

I went there around 9pm Friday night. They said the wait would be 1/2 hour and that they last seat people at 9:30pm. I didn't want to wait 1/2 hour only to get shut out.

I'm planning a Vegas trip some time in the next couple months. I'll try it then and let you know.

What causes you to get the shakes?

Anxiety. Just worse than yours.

Yes, I suffer from anxiety disorder, more specifically panic disorder. It sucks to say the least. I choose not to medicate for it, I am just learning to deal with it. I have learned certain things set it off and to avoid those things. For example, caffeine generally tends to make my anxiety worse and can even cause panic attacks. Lack of sleep almost always leads to an anxiety-filled day for me.

I would suggest experimenting around with some different variables and see if you can pinpoint some triggers to your anxiety.

At least you recognize it, and this should calm you down. Tell yourself "I am just feeling anxiety for no reason, it WILL go away." Deep breathing helps too.

QL? are you a very busy person? Do you have lots going on in your life?
The gas pump situation could be triggered by the thought of waiting and losing time. Just a speculation.

HC, I refuse to medicate for it also.

There is other ways. I'm just too lazy to always follow them.

That's what I do, Harry, I just talk myself out of it.

As far as anxiety goes, I feel it if I'm hungry. I think my blood sugar gets high and it puts me into an anxious state. Once I eat it seems to go away. I get irritable when hungry too.

You know, kingbill, I think that is a good explanation. I'm not as busy as I used to be but I think I developed the anxiety as a habit to when I was busy and it just kept coming up.

I experience this phenomenon too, this is another trigger I was talking about. I am not diabetic but I do think my blood sugar level and anxiety level are related in a major way. The worst panic attacks usually happen shortly before lunch if I skipped breakfast. They are completely gone 10 minutes after lunch.

So, if I stay up late partying (excess alcohol can set it off the next day), don't get enough sleep, then skip breakfast because I'm hungover, and drink coffee cause I'm so damn tired, I am fucked for the day.

Non- psychological triggers for mild anxiety :

  • Low on water
  • Too much caffiene
  • Empty stomache
  • Drinking too heavy
  • Excessive blood sugar (Not sure about this one)
  • You just found out your girl is cheating (J/K, as this falls under psyc trigger)
Feel free to add or correct me, guys.

Certain things people need to feel some anxiety about, anything that puts you in physical danger. It's part of our self-protection mechanism.
Other things such as social anxieties are born into us, such as the nervousness that most people fear when they are about to do some public speaking. Thousands of years ago if you were in a small tribe of 50 people, if you did something to be ostracized from that group you would be sent away to live on your own or you could be killed, luckily we don't have to deal with the same life or death situations from our social interactions but those inborn protection mechanisms are still there. I find if you don't fight the anxiety and accept that is how you are feeling and then look for the real cause and not the superficial trigger, once you recognize what the real cause is you probably won't have the same anxiety again or at least it will be much more mild.

That's why I stopped drinking coffee years ago. I would get way wound up on that stuff. Even today too much chocolate can have unintended consequenses. Drinking in excess is not something I associate as a cause of anxiety, more of a reaction to.

* running low on crack
* not enuf sleep
* doing the martingale
* too much meth
